To Lundy Island
Boat Stories
loves going to Lundy.
You can visit by helicopter over winter
or book now for a trip on the Oldenburg which sails from 31 March 2015
SPRING & EARLY SUMMER:
the seabirds numbers are building up as they come ashore to nest.
the migrant birds are arriving for summer
the sea pink (sea thrift), Lundy cabbage and many other coastal plants are in flower
the days are light and bright and longer
because although Lundy is tiny, every visit reveals something different. If you hear a good weather forecast, it's possible in Spring or early summer, particularly on weekdays to buy tickets on the day. Check out the number below. Even if the office is closed it will usually tell you if tickets are available for the next day's sailing. And when you get there - if you want to see the puffins -head to Jenny's cove. Plenty of time to walk there - eat a picnic on the grassy banks and watch the comings and goings of puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes, fulmars and shags.
Boat Stories had a wonderful day trip on the Oldenburg in May 2014 accompanied by MARINElife’s Lundy Wildlife Officer Rick Morris and conservation science officer, Rachel Davies. We met wildlife warden Beccy Macdonald, spotted about 40 puffins rafting amongst the guillemots and razorbills and at least 20 seals in the round the island trip.
A write up of our day out is available on the news/blog page. We returned in May 2015 and are now editing our Lundy film!
